Over the past few years Berghaus has been making a mighty comeback into the footwear market, bringing out some excellent new products and not holding back on further development of its old classics such as this one, the Explorer Ridge. Although it’s a fairly cheap pair of hiking boots, after taking a quick glance at this product you might just be surprised what it is capable of.

The sole unit on the Explorer Ridge features deep-cut lugs that perform excellently on almost all surfaces, particularly in wet, muddy underfoot conditions where the self-cleaning tread patter excels. The PU midsole and an internal flex plate mean that the boot’s flex point is positioned pretty much perfectly to be a great help to comfort, especially on a long hike. The midsole also provides a measure of lateral support and a lot of cushioning which, again, helps make the boots a pleasure to wear. A comfortable inner lining and an effective amount of padding around the ankle also mean that out-of-the-box comfort is superb.

The level of support provided by the Explorer Ridge is just about right for the majority of three season uses and it’ll keep your foot stable on rocky terrain. They’re also fitted with a Gore-Tex waterproof membrane, giving you even more boot for your buck. The upper is made from a durable leather and while the Explorer Ridge looks classy, they also have a young, stylish appeal.

We can’t really think of any reasons why you shouldn’t buy a pair of these. They’re incredibly comfortable, they provide a lot of support, the sole is brilliant and performs well in the wet and as well as a stylish leather upper you get the added protection of a Gore-Tex lining. The best part, though, is that you get all of this for an affordable (in boot terms) £125 and I’m sure you’ll be able to find it cheaper online.

Berghaus Explorer Ridge boots verdict

The Berghaus Explorer Ridge boots offer superb out of the box comfort and certainly come highly recommended.
