We’re often impressed with the footwear that Lowa produces, so we were eager to see how the Renegade II GTX Lo fared. This is our verdict.

If you want to see what a great pair of hiking shoes or boots looks like then pick up anything from Lowa. The brand always impresses with its excellent range, and for this review we have the Renegade II GTX Lo, the low cut version of Lowa’s ever popular Renegade II GTX Mid boot. The shoe features a beautiful 1.6mm nubuck upper, a Gore-Tex lining and a Vibram Renevo sole. All of this comes together to form a shoe that will last years (if looked after) and serve you well on the trails.
Comfort is immediately apparent as you slip your feet into the Renegades. The soft lining, the comfortable padding around the ankle cuff and the tongue, and the foam insole all provide a pleasurable experience. The lacing system works brilliantly, wrapping the upper around the foot to give a snug, supportive fit.
While we say that there’s usually a trade off between comfort and support, the Renegade II GTX Lo strikes a good balance between the two. Comfort is superb out of the box and throughout the day, but the TPU stabiliser and Lowa’s Monowrap midsole give a lot of stiffness. This ensures great underfoot stability and support on rough trails, and the Renegades are about as close to the boot as you can get.
The top quality Vibram Renevo sole offers great performance on all terrain, with deep lugs making it great for mud plugging. A more aggressive tread towards the toe and heel allows for better grip when tackling inclines or declines.
If you’re after a top quality shoe that offers a superb mix of comfort and underfoot stability you can do no wrong by buying the Lowa Renegade II GTX Lo. Everything about it screams quality, from the components to the quality of construction.
