INTERLAKEN: a hiker’s PARADISE

Nestled peacefully between the emerald green waters of Lake Thun and the turquoise gleam of Lake Brienz lies Interlaken, a traditional town in the Bernese Oberland Switzerland. A gateway to the popular ski resorts in winter, in summer, adventurers from all over the world come to hike here and discover why it’s known as the ‘Adventure Capital of Europe’. It’s the perfect sanctuary for exploring the mountains on foot.

Take the train from Interlaken Ost to Wilderswil and change to the old-time mountain railway and you’ll experience some of the most awe-inspiring views over Interlaken; alight at Schynige Platte and you’ve reached the starting point of one of the area’s most spectacular hikes.

The Daube viewpoint promises breath-taking vistas while the ridgeway up to the Oberberghorn offers glimpses of chamois grazing. A steep wooden stairway takes you to the summit of the Oberberghorn where you’ll find magnificent 360-degree views of the entire Bernese Oberland.

The best way to experience this hiker’s paradise is with a three-day Top of Europe Pass. From around £350pp you’ll get unlimited travel on the Jungfrau Railways network as well as access to Jungfraujoch, which at 3,454m is Europe’s highest railway station and a must-see on any trip to Switzerland.
