Video of the week: Surfing the bitterly cold waters of the Arctic Circle

With summer almost here and temperatures on the rise, how about a little something to cool you down?

Surfing when the sun is shining is (usually) a relatively leisurely activity. To these chaps though, it’s child’s play. In this beautifully-shot video they took things to the next level and hopped on their boards in the bitterly cold Arctic waters of the North Atlantic Ocean.

This stunning video shows photographer Chris Burkard and professional surfers Patrick Millin, Brett Barley and Chadd Konig brave sub-zero temperatures as they embark on a journey into the Arctic Circle to capture the raw beauty of one of the harshest environments in the world.

The video gives Chris the opportunity to talk through how he operates as a photographer and what’s required, in his mind, to capture perfect shots in such harsh environments. He says he wants his photos to take people so far away from where they are in that moment and to allow them to be immersed in the feelings that his pictures provoke.

The video made us feel cold just by watching it, but apart from that it truly is a great piece of visual storytelling.
