Deuter was founded in 1898 in Augsburg, Germany by a man named Hans Deuter. The brand originally provided the Bavarian Royal Mail with post sacks and mail bags, expanding from linen weaving and sackcloth to a department that also included tent rentals in 1905. By 1910, Deuter Sport was manufacturing products for the military, including satchels, knapsacks, backpacks, belts and even tents.
Expanding again in 1919, the brand began producing suitcases and backpacks, and is still doing so today, 100 years later. These days, Deuter is a leading brand of mountaineering equipment backpacks and travel luggage, with a focus on environmental responsibility and ethics.
