With over 400km of glistening slopes to play on, Nendaz is Switzerland’s largest ski destination. The wide variety of runs here caters to snow-lovers of all abilities from complete beginners to seasoned ski junkies – and if skiing isn’t your thing, there’s a host of other winter activities to try, too.

With hiking, snowshoeing, and zip-lining all on offer, as well as lively nightlife, local delicacies, and a welcoming atmosphere, Nendaz is the beating heart of the 4 Vallées. Here are five must-try activities to experience Nendaz to the full.

Never skied before? If you’re new to the sport or have limited experience, Nendaz is the perfect place to gain confidence on the slopes. The region boasts over 400km of terrain that caters to skiers of all abilities, including three beginners’ areas.

Fancy a challenge? Competent carvers and thrill-seekers can take on the moguls and powder on Nendaz’s Freetracks, with the highest run starting at 3,330m.

Ski-touring

A cross between hiking and skiing, if you want to explore the spectacular scenery of Nendaz along with the pleasure of gliding down its mountains, then ski-touring’s for you. The climb might take a bit of effort but immersing yourself in Nendaz’s stunning surroundings more than makes up for it.

There’s a choice of five Touring Tracks, which cater to all levels of experience, and mountain restaurants at the summits, where you can rest and refuel before enjoying a breathtaking descent.

Hiking and snowshoeing

Winter wonderlands aren’t just for snow sports; hiking and snowshoeing are the perfect ways to experience the Swiss mountains of Nendaz and all they have to offer. With a variety of trails to explore – including a loop suitable for small children – snowshoeing is the ideal family activity.

Take a picnic, have a play in the snow, and enjoy lunch soaking up the incredible views over the Rhone Valley, the Haut de Cry, the Muverans, and the Derborence valley.

Zip-lining

Of course, at the other end of the scale Nendaz offers daredevils the chance to test the limits of their comfort zone. The Mont-Fort zip-line is a 383m descent over the stunning Tortin glacier.

Reaching speeds of over 100km an hour, zip-liners launch themselves from an altitude of 3,300m, travelling the 1,400m line from the iconic Mont-Fort towards Col des Gentianes. Check out the views here.

Cultural experience

With its lively nightlife, welcoming atmosphere, and local delicacies, Nendaz is at the heart of Swiss mountain hospitality.
