If we had our way, we would spend pretty much all of our time in the mountains, but unfortunately the need to work sort of gets in the way. So when we don’t have the time and freedom to be outdoors we like to enjoy the world through some of the brilliant photographers on Instagram.

Max Rive’s feed is just one fine example. The 29-year-old hails from the Netherlands and has only been on Instagram for just over a year, but he’s already got over 100,000 followers and it’s easy to see why. He seems to capture some of the world’s greatest landscapes in the most magical way imaginable.

Rive first started taking photos in the winter of 2008 and has come a long way since then. “I wasn’t any different from a traveller with a camera. I wanted to capture my adventures in the mountains,” he explains on his website.

“It was a way to come [back] with something other than only memories and to give some more meaning to an adventure”

Well, judging by his Instagram feed, he certainly seems to be capturing his adventures beautifully.

Whether it’s an unbelievable mountain shot under the Northern Lights in Lofoten, Norway, or a beautifully architected landscape shot in Iceland, you can be sure it is going to be of the highest quality.

Rive manages to capture the light, and the vast array of colours it touches, fantastically well and it’s no exaggeration to say that pretty much every photo on his feed looks as if it should don the cover of the world’s greatest travel magazines.

Here’s a selection of his photos that we are sure you will enjoy very much indeed…
