Watch this mountain biker’s daring descent of a mountain of shifting slate

Downhill mountain-biking champ Gee Atherton is no stranger to extreme challenges, but this latest effort is ‘terrifying’ by his own admission.

The Slate Line follows on from Gee’s now-iconic Ridgeline ride (where he careered 666m down Tarren y Gesail, a narrow mountain ridge in Snowdonia National Park, at eye-watering speeds), and this one is even faster, gnarlier, and more dangerous than anything he’s attempted before.

Watch him dodge 200m-deep mines and navigate massive drops as he descends the near-vertical walls of a disused slate quarry in Wales. Think riding over broken glass and you’re almost there…
